On collecting – a conversation among frances

The seminar is an opportunity to analyze the relationship between liturgy and iconography in the shaping of the Way of St. James and the Cathedral of Compostela between the eleventh and fifteenth centuries from an interdisciplinary basis and from key readings in historiography, which will enrich the debates that may arise among the attendees.
This activity is organized within the framework of the R&D Project. Visual and ceremonial culture in the early and late Middle Ages: Liturgy and ritual iconography in the genesis and consolidation of the Camino de Santiago (PI: Dr. Ángel Pazos-López). The activity will be developed in virtual format, with the intervention of the components of the project that will talk about the different perspectives through which the historical-artistic research can be interpreted. A certificate of participation will be given to those who attend, subject to prior registration.

Between January and March, participants have studied the key principles and requirements of sustainable tourism development, as well as the principles of ethics and responsibility on the Camino de Santiago. From March 17 to 22, the project moved on to the practical phase. The idea is to do what they say: divided into four groups, they walk for five days a distance of 100 km on four different paths of the Camino de Santiago, ending in Santiago Compostela. The objective is to contrast the sustainability challenges previously studied with the reality along the route, in order to make the necessary adjustments or identify new sustainable tourism products.
As one of the world’s emblematic cultural routes, the Camino de Santiago is positioned as a vehicle of understanding through the practice of sustainable tourism and gives the necessary international relevance to this project, so that it can be replicated and train tourism professionals in different parts of the world.
